Norfolk pedestrian dies after being struck by car
A pedestrian in downtown Norfolk succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident the day before. Police say they arrived on the scene of the accident just before 10 PM the night of July 1, 2017. At the intersection of Monticello Avenue and E. 26th Street, they found a 56-year-old man lying in the near the road. A Camaro heading southbound on Monticello had struck the man. The driver stayed at the scene after the accident.
Emergency personnel took the victim to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Camaro was not charged. Police say neither alcohol nor speed played a role in the accident. No updates have been given on the cause of the accident since before the July 4th holiday.
