Suffolk Worker Pinned by Vehicle, Injured
A Suffolk Recycling worker is recovering following an accident on Thursday, January 26, 2017. News reports show the man was helping unloading a vehicle off of a tractor trailer when the car slid off and pinned him to the ground. His coworkers were able to pry the vehicle off of him, but he still sustained serious injuries. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment, but no update has been given about his condition. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this story as it develops, and sending our thoughts outs to the injured worker.
Workers who handle heavy machinery put their lives at risk every day they go to work. But they take on these positions with the understanding that certain safety measures will be in place to protect them. Though the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, it seems as though something – or someone – failed to keep this man safe.
Employers owe it to their workers to provide safe working conditions. That’s why federal agencies like OSHA exist, after all. Still, far too many accidents like this one occur because of an employers (or colleague’s) negligence. Workers injured on the job often miss work because of their accident, leading to lost income for their families. Medical expenses and long-term health problems can add up, too. That’s why we encourage anyone injured on the job to reach out to us for a free, no-risk consultation. Having an experienced personal injury lawyer by your side is invaluable after a scary accident like this one.
