Man Killed in VA Beach Motorcycle Wreck
Details are sparse surrounding a fatal crash between a motorcycle and car in Virginia Beach this weekend. Police responded to the scene of the accident around 7:00 PM the night of March 10, 2018. The collision occurred at the intersection of Rainbow Drive and S. Independence Blvd. It’s not clear exactly what caused the crash, but we do know that first responders were unsuccessful in their attempts to save the life of the motorcyclist. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. No indication has been given as to whether or not the driver of the car has been charged for their involvement in the crash.
How Motorcycle Accidents Happen
Tragically, many motorcycle accidents are not the fault of the biker, but of the other motorists around them. Many drivers are accustomed to looking out for other vehicles their own size and can easily miss smaller vehicles like motorcycles and scooters. This often means changing lanes into the path of a motorcycle or cutting in front of one to make a left turn. Too often, the motorcyclist cannot stop in time to prevent a collision.
Legal Options for Families
When motorcyclists are killed because of another driver’s negligence, their family may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit to seek damages. This can include compensation for medical care, funeral costs, lost earning capacity and even non-economic damages like loss of companionship. While no amount of money can make up for the loss of a loved one, a wrongful death settlement can ensure the best future possible for the victim’s surviving family members.
