Man Killed in Military Hwy. Motorcycle Crash

Virginia motorcycle accident attorneyA man has died after being involved in a motorcycle wreck in Norfolk yesterday. Early reports show that the September 27, 2017 accident on Military Highway occurred around 8:20 PM. A Ford SUV was heading northbound on Military when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Longdale Drive. The Ford pulled in front of oncoming traffic and was struck by the motorcycle.

Tragically, the man riding the motorcycle was thrown from his bike in the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford was not hurt in the wreck but has cooperated with investigators.

Initial investigations reveal that neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the wreck. Upon completion of the investigation, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will determine if the driver of the Ford will be charged.

We send our condolences out to the family of the victim.

Unfortunately, left turns in the path of oncoming motorcycles frequently cause serious accidents. Left turns are always difficult because of how hard it is to judge the speed of traffic. It is made even more difficult when drivers are unfamiliar with how quickly a motorcycle can travel. It is likely that the driver of the Ford had no real understanding of the risks when she pulled in front of the motorcycle.

Still, her actions have lead to the death of a 58-year-old man. We would not be surprised to learn she had been charged. We’ll be keeping a close watch on this story as it develops and bring our readers updates as they come.
