Man Charged with DUI in Fatal New Year's Crash
A Maryland man has been charged with a DUI and involuntary manslaughter following a deadly New Year’s crash. The incident occurred just before 2:30 AM on January 1, 2017.
Police say the man was driving south in his pickup truck in the northbound lanes of Route 19 when he struck a sedan head-on. The driver of the sedan was killed in the accident. The driver of the truck had minor injuries. Once treated, police arrested him for driving under the influence. He was also charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter.
We send our condolences to the family and friends of the man killed in the accident. With this time of year normally so joyful, it must be incredibly difficult to deal with a loss like this one. The 21-year-old man who died in the accident should have had many more years of life ahead of him.
Our blog features warnings about the dangers of drunk drivers every holiday season. New Year’s Eve and the first few hours of the new year itself are some of the most dangerous times to be on the road. For many, the holiday is celebrated with champagne toasts – and many times, much more booze. And despite warnings about the dangers of driving drunk, people still make the selfish choice to get behind the wheel after having a few drinks.
If you’ve been drinking, you shouldn’t be on the road, period. In this day and age, ride sharing apps and taxis are just a few moments away.
