Hit-and-Run Crash Kills One in Richmond
One person is dead after a pair of SUVs collided in Richmond this weekend. The December 4, 2016 accident occurred at the intersection of Terminal Avenue and Jefferson Davis Highway.
It started when one SUV struck another, pushing the second vehicle into a light pole. The SUV burst into flame upon colliding with the pole. The driver was killed in the crash.
The other driver fled the scene on foot. Police are now searching for the person, and have confirmed with the commonwealth attorney’s office that they will be charged once found. They have not released a physical description of the person they’re trying to find, but ask that anyone who might have seen the crash or have information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or www.7801000.com.
The late hour of the crash – 2 A.M. – is a key detail in understanding this tragic accident. Though the time doesn’t explain all of the questions left unanswered by this hit-and-run driver, it could explain the mindset of the person responsible. Unsurprisingly, many crashes that occur this time of night are caused by drunk drivers.
We send our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person killed in the accident. Fatal car crashes often leave unanswered questions but hit-and-run accidents like this one are especially difficult. We will continue to follow the search for the driver responsible for this horrific accident.
In the meantime, we encourage the family of the victim to reach out to our firm. We can provide some answers to the undoubtedly overwhelming questions they likely have about their loss.
