Fatal Car Accident in Hampton
Authorities say one man is dead and another is seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash in Hampton. The incident occurred early Tuesday, August 3rd. Emergency response teams arrived on site around 4:30 AM in the La Salle Avenue and Settlers Landing Road area. They discovered two men trapped inside the vehicle. Both were hospitalized once freed, but the 50-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries. Details on the surviving victim’s condition were not available at the time of publication.
The Danger of Late Night Rides
Investigators are still working to understand how exactly this incident occurred. Police believe the driver was likely traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a curb. The vehicle continued into a dry ravine where it overturned. There were no other vehicles involved in the wreck.
Without additional details, it’s hard to speculate as to what precisely caused this crash. The late hour may be to blame. Many drivers load up on coffee before hitting the road late at night, only to find that the lull of driving makes them sleepier than expected. Fatigued driving is all too common, with 20 percent of Americans admitting to falling asleep behind the wheel.
The Road to Recovery
The surviving accident victim may have a long road to recovery, even after he’s released from the hospital. Car accidents can be incredibly traumatizing, leaving survivors with as much psychological damage as they sustained physically. Talking with an experienced Virginia car accident attorney about his damages – and options for recovery – may help clarify the path forward.
