RECALL: Dangerous Infant Inclined Sleepers
We expect the products we buy for our children to be designed and manufactured with safety in mind. Tragically, negligent product design is more common than you might expect, leading to life-threatening injuries and sometimes, even death. Dangerous product designs have led countless manufacturers to recall their inclined sleeper products for infants in the last few years. We’re working to hold these companies responsible for the damage they’ve done to families all over the country.
Products Included in the Recall
The following products have been recalled by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission:
- Kolcraft Cuddle N Care
- Fisher Price Rock N Play
- Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat
- Evenflo Pillo Portable Napper
- SwaddleMe By Your Bed
These are just a handful of the dangerous products recalled by the USCPSC. Parents with infants should pay close attention to the agency’s website for news and additional updates. With more than 73 deaths associated with such products, it’s no wonder so many experts encourage families to stop using inclined sleepers altogether.
Sudden Unexpected Infant Death
While many people are familiar with the term Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, Sudden Unexpected Infant Death is less well-known. SUID refers to the death of any baby less than a year old that occurs unexpectedly. Accidental suffocation and strangulation are considered forms of SUID. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control, approximately 3,500 babies a year suffer from SUID. SIDs counts for about half of that figure.
Safe Alternatives for Babies
Experts advise parents to provide a flat, bare place for their infants to sleep. While you might enjoy a cozy bed yourself, babies lack the motor skills and strength necessary to turn over when they can’t get enough air. By placing infants in a bare crib, you reduce the risk of suffocation significantly. If you’re concerned about the baby being warm enough, simply dress them in warmer clothing for bed. It’s the safest way to ensure your baby gets the rest they need!
