Target Recalls Thousands of Defective Dressers

recall%20photoTarget is recalling nearly 200,000 dressers after reports that the model is defective. News reports indicate that the company has received multiple reports of their Room Essentials four drawer dressers tipping over or collapsing onto young toddlers. The company recommends anyone who has the dresser in their home stop using it immediately and return it to the store as soon as possible for a full refund. The drawers were sold in three colors: black, espresso and maple.

The dressers were sold between January 2013 and April 2016. If you aren’t sure if your dresser is part of the recall, check out the official recall notice for more details.

Though no one has been injured by the defective dressers so far, the risk is still high. Many families with young children shop at Target for home goods and furniture, so it is not out of the question for a toddler to be around one of the dressers in question. We applaud Target for taking a proactive approach to recalling the defective dresser before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

Being proactive about recalls as a consumer can help protect your family. Experts recommend checking for product recalls every few months. Tying it into other seasonal traditions, like daylight savings time, can help jog your memory. Make it a part of your routine: set the clocks back or forward, change out the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and check recall.gov to see if any of your furniture, vehicles or home goods are being recalled.
