One Million BMWs Recalled Over Potential Fire Risks

Recall Lawyer Richard SerpeA recall affecting one in five BMWs on the road has been announced, with more than 1,000,000 cars at risk of catching on fire.

In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall is actually two separate recalls. Models manufactured from 2006 to 2011 are affected by the recall, with a total of more than 1.4 million vehicles included.

One recall involves the heater used in some models of BMWs. It has been known to cause fires in cars not in use. The other recall involves wiring issues and electrical connectors in the system that controls heaters and air conditioners. The luxury vehicles have been known to catch fire while parked in some family’s garages. One such family narrowly escaped after their car caught fire in their garage.

Free Repairs

BMW has tried to shift some of the blame away from themselves, saying that some of the problems are not necessarily from manufacturing, but from improper maintenance. They say they will begin repairing customer’s cars starting next month for free. In the meantime, it is recommended that anyone with an affected BMW park their car outside their garage just in case a fire ignites.

Affected Models

The PCV valve heater recall includes the following BMW vehicles models and years: 128i from 2008 through 2011; and the 328i, 525i, 528i, 530i, X3. X5 and Z4 from 2007 through 2011.

The blower motor system connectors recall includes the following BMW vehicles of these models and years: 323i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi and M3 from 2006 through 2011; 335is from 2007 through 2011; and the 335d from 2009 through 2011.
