Woman, Children Injured in Accomack Co. Collision
A collision between a pickup truck and a car landed four people in the hospital today. The Accomack County, Virginia accident occurred just before 8 AM on Route 13, near Temperanceville Road. Sources report that the driver of a sedan crossed over the center lanes and struck a pickup truck. A woman and three children in the truck were hospitalized with injuries sustained in the crash.
Thankfully, despite the serious nature of the injuries, everyone is expected to survive. We send best wishes to the victims for full recoveries.
Police say that alcohol nor speed were factors in this crash. A full investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
While it’s impossible to know the whole story before the investigation is complete, it’s possible that early morning drowsiness played a role in the wreck. In the early hours of the day, it’s difficult for many people to fully wake up for their commute to work. Even someone slightly sleepy can find themselves struggling to keep their eyes open behind the wheel.
In just a few moments of closed eyes, accidents like this one can happen. Cars can easily drift into oncoming traffic, or off the side of the road, or into guardrails. It’s a common problem, too. Four percent of drivers admit to driving while drowsy. That’s 11 million potentially deadly drivers to contend with.
Distracted driving, too, may have played a role. With smart phones playing a larger role in our lives every year, it’s possible an incoming call or notification could have played a role in the crash.
