VB Crash Lands Motorcyclist in the Hospital

A motorcyclist is in serious condition after a crash in Virginia Beach this weekend. Sources say the biker was riding around 2:00 PM the afternoon of June 17, 2017, when he turned right off of Palace Green Blvd. and onto S. Plaza Trail — right into a lane of oncoming traffic. The driver of a Nissan Altima heading eastbound on S. Plaza Trail saw the motorcyclist and moved right to avoid a collision. Instead, the motorcyclist sideswiped the car, which caused it to crash.

The biker was sent to the hospital with injuries. He remains in serious condition. Police say charges are pending against the driver, and that speed and alcohol played a role in this crash. The accident was so serious, police say the Fatal Crash Team are working on the investigation, despite the lack of fatalities.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which undoubtedly impacted the level of severity of the collision. We send him best wishes for a full recovery.

Motorcyclists should heed this man’s accident as a warning. Reckless behavior behind the wheel of a motorcycle can end in serious injury. The man is lucky to be alive, but surely has a long road to recovery ahead of him. Independent from one another, speed and alcohol are deadly enough. Combine the two (and the lack of safety equipment), and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

This summer, avoid drinking and driving at all costs. And always wear a helmet when riding your motorcycle, even if your ride is a short one!
