Charges Pending in Fatal Chesapeake Crash

Virginia Car Accident Lawyer - Richard SerpeOne person was killed and another injured in an accident in Chesapeake this weekend. The September 9, 2017 crash occurred at the intersection of Military Highway and Engle Avenue just before 8:30 PM. While the specifics of the crash are still being investigated, we do know that an adult female was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. Charges are pending for the driver who survived.

We send our condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman killed in the collision. Chances are good they have a lot of questions about the accident and about their legal rights moving forward. We encourage them to reach out for a confidential consultation.

When a person dies in a car accident caused by the negligence of another driver, their loved ones may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Wrongful death cases work just like personal injury claims, but because the person is no longer around to file the claim themselves, their family may do so in their stead.

While no amount of money can ever truly make up for the loss of a loved one, the compensation can make the lives of the victim’s survivors easier. Many times, when a person dies in a car accident, a family loses a breadwinner. That loss combined with the unexpected costs of a funeral and any medical bills incurred before the person passed away can be immense. The loss of companionship and love, too, can be overwhelming.
