2 Men Sentenced Following Fatal VA Beach DUI Crash

istock_000007435695xsmallTwo men are facing prison time following their roles in a fatal crash in Virginia Beach in 2015. Both men were involved in the multi-vehicle crash that occurred around 2:30 AM the night of April 15, 2015. The cars collided at the intersection of Newtown Road and Greenwich Road, killing one of their passengers instantly.

Four other passengers were also injured in the wreck. Both men were charged with DUI at the scene of the accident. Later, charges of involuntary manslaughter and disorderly conduct were added. The at fault driver had been driving 70 miles per hour while in a 35 miles per hour zone when the crash occurred.

The at fault driver will face five years in prison, while the other driver received a sentence of seven years.

Though the family of the young woman killed in the crash may be relieved at finally seeing some justice for their loved one, the reality is that nothing will ever make up for their loss. No amount of prison time can bring their beloved family member back. We send our condolences to them.

Drunk driving accidents like this one highlight the incredible danger people are in when driving with an inebriated driver – even as a passenger. If you’ve got plans to go out drinking and partying with friends, make a plan to get home safely before your first drink is ever poured. With ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft more popular than ever, there’s no reason to ever risk riding with a drunk driver.
