Patient Dies After SUV Crashed into Ambulance on West Mercury Blvd

September 26, 2011

Saturday night a Hampton medic unit carrying a cardiac arrest patient was hit by a SUV causing the ambulance to flip

As the ambulance crossed through the intersection of Armistead Avenue and W. Mercury Blvd, the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban failed to stop and collided with the ambulance causing it flip.  Along with the patient, three members of the rescue squad and a student were also on board.

Seven people were transported to nearby hospitals, six of which had minor injuries and were released from the hospital on Sunday.

Sadly the cardiac arrest patient did not survive.

Joanna Kibwe is being charged with reckless driving after colliding with the ambulance causing it to flip on its side.
