Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) Filters
Q: What is Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement?
Inferior vena cava filter placement is a surgery that places a filter in the inferior vana cava. The filter is used to prevent blood clots from entering the lungs or heart via a large vein.
During the surgery, a catheter is inserted in either the neck or groin. Through an ultrasound, the catheter is guided to the IVC and the filter is then placed there through the catheter. The filter is attached to the walls of the vein, and the catheter is then pulled out. [Read More on the risks of IVC Filters]
