Fatal Hampton boat wreck leaves woman dead

Sunday, July 4th a fatal boating accident resulted in the death of 35-year-old Elizabeth J. Elliott, while her 7-year-old son was driving, according to a Virginian-Pilot report

Elizabeth Elliott, her 7-year-old son, her mother, and 2 other friends, one of which owned the boat, were headed home on the Hampton River when the accident occur.

The Washington Post reported that authorities claim the boy made a sudden turn, after which he plowed into a pier. His Mother was thrown into the windshield and them off the back of the boat.  She was taken to Riverside Regional Medical, where she later died.

The Virginia Marine Police are now trying to determine whether any charges should be filed.  John Bull, a marine police spokesman says that Virginia does not have any laws in place that contain an age limit for the operation of motorboats.

An investigation is still underway to determine if any laws were actually broken, and if charges should be filed.
