Failure to Yield Causes 2 Virginia Motorcycle Accidents Over the Weekend

Several motorcycle accidents occurred this past weekend on Virginia’s roads causing serious injuries to the motorcycle riders. Both accidents, one in Madison County and the other in Danville, were due to inattentive drivers who failed to yield.

On Friday, August 12th, a Madison County motorcyclist was involved in a crash after a 15 year old driver failed to yield the right of right. The motorcycle rider, Rodney Bechtle, was flown to the University of Virginia Hospital, but the seriousness of his injuries were not reported.  The 15 year old driver, who did hold a learner’s permit, and her mother were on Reva Road when she pulled out from a stop sign causing the motorcycle to hit the side of the vehicle. A trooper has issued a summons to the driver for failure to yield the right of way.

On Saturday, August 13th a 27 year old Danville resident was badly injured when a car pulled out in front of his motorcycle.  The motorcycle accident occurred around 2 p.m. along Arnett Boulevard. The man was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center, and was then flown to a Roanoke hospital.  The injuries are being reported as serious, but non-life threatening.  The driver of the vehicle, Alice Mcdonald of Danville, has been charged with failure to yield right of way.

Motorcycle riders are all too frequently victims of careless and inattentive drivers of cars and trucks.  The results of a collision with a motorcycle include brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, serious physical injuries, and in some cases death.

Motorcycle injuries can be very serious, and are often more debilitating than those sustained by car or truck drivers involved in similar crashes. You may require more extensive medical care and longer hospitalization, which could affect your job productivity and your future earnings.

If have been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident which was due to someone else’s negligence, you have legal rights.  If you or a loved one has been injured in a Virginia motorcycle accident, you should contact a Virginia personal injury lawyer to explore your options.
