'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' NHTSA's New Drunk Driving Campaign

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) warns drivers "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," which is part of their annual nationwide crackdown on drunk drivers as Labor Day approaches.

This year's nationwide advertising campaign features "invisible" law enforcement officers watching alcohol-impaired individuals before apprehending them when they attempt to drive their vehicles.  The slogan "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" will be DOT's message for 2011 - 2016.

  • Fatal accidents involving drunk drivers occur most frequently between midnight and 3AM
  • Followed by 9PM to midnight.
  • One in 3 drivers aged 21 - 24 involved in fatal accidents were alcohol-impaired
  • Drivers 25-34 were second most likely to be involved in drunk driving crashes

States will also be advertising to their communities on the drinking and driving crackdown as summer comes to an end and Labor Day approaches.

Jan Withers, the MADD National President stated, "High visibility law enforcement is an important part of MADD's Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving." The organization is a partner with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
