Pain Pump Shatters Football Player's Dreams

Matthew McKeown was an all-American football player in high school and earned himself an impressive full scholarship to the University of Miami. In the minds of coaches and spectators he was destined to shine in the National Football League. Unfortunately while recovering a fumble during a game he had injured his shoulder.

The On-Q Painbuster,
manufactured by I-Flow Corporation, was used in his post surgical treatment. While the pain pump was implanted directly into the shoulder joint, anesthetics began to deteriorate his cartilage. McKeown rehabbed and impressively went on to lead his team in weightlifting statistics. Although he never said anything to his coaches and teammates, McKeown was in serious agony with his shoulder.

Eventually he was administered the same On-Q Painbuster from his previous procedure to receive medication in his shoulder. An MRI was taken after his treatment and revealed his shoulder cartilage was worn down to a point beyond medical repair.

Dreams of an NFL career were shattered.

A lawsuit has now been file by McKeown against I-Flow after a medical study revealed insertion of the
pain pump directly into the joint was extremely damaging.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the pain pump to be inserted into the muscle tissue, but never directly into the shoulder joint as manufacturers of pain pumps instruct surgeons to do.

Numerous lawsuits are being filed from similar effects suffered like McKeown's.
