Recent statistical data has shown that Hattiesburg, Mississippi has the highest proportion of children with elevated blood lead levels in the state.
"We analyzed 42,372 records of children in Mississippi from January 1999-2003 and found that 2,446 had high blood lead levels that exceeded 10 units. Hattiesburg had the highest proportion of childhood blood lead levels."
The University of Southern Mississippi has announced that they will be collaborating with local organizations this year to address this problem.
