Boat Accident in Virginia Beach Caused by Wave

Police are now saying that the boat accident that happened near the Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach Wednesday morning was caused by a 3 to 4 foot wave.  The wave struck the side of the 18 foot boat, causing the engine to stall right before it flipped.

Police have now announced the names of the two Arizona fishermen who were killed in the accident.  Allen Dedrick, 69, and Ned Rokey, 89, did not survive the accident which tossed all six passengers into the 45 degree water.

PilotOnline reported that the other four passengers, whose names have not been released, say that it was an annual trip that they took for stripper fishing this time of year.

Injuries at sea and in local waters are not restricted to seamen. Weekend sailors on sailboats and powerboats, and even jet ski operators, are covered under the general maritime law. Special regulations and rules, including Coast Guard regulations and the Limitation of Liability Act, can have an important impact on victims injured on pleasure boats. Richard Serpe has the qualifications and experience to help these victims recover.
