On Wednesday, November 9, a boat capsized off of the Assateagure Island coast killing a Virginia Beach man and sending another to the hospital.
According to the
MDCoastDispatch, Coast Guard Station Ocean City received a call around noon that a small commercial boat had overturned and that the occupants were in the water.
Petty Officer Alonzo Curry of the Coast Guard reported that the boat capsized in the surf close to shore and the two men in the boat were thrown into the water. One of the victims made his way out of the water and was taken to the hospital. Tragically the other victim, Robert Kennedy of Virginia Beach, was recovered by park rangers and declared dead at the scene from drowning.
The two men were doing survey work off of the coast when the accident occurred, according to
WBOC.com. The Coast Guard reported that the boat was owned and operated by East Coast Hydrographics Survey which Mr. Kennedy owned.
