Boy hit by car while getting onto school bus in Mathews County

An eight year old boy was hit by a car while was attempting to get onto a school bus this morning. According to WVEC, the accident happened around 7:40a.m. in the 17300 block of Route 14 (John Clayton Highway) in Mathews County.

According to VA State Police, the school bus was following proper procedure. The bus was stopped, had its lights on, and stop sign displayed.

The boy was taken to Riverside Regional in Newport News and is in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Robert Armellino, has been charged with failure to stop for a school bus. According to police, Armellino did not see the child or the school bus.
